Two modes

You choose how much app you want.

When you install FotoNoa you pick which one to start with, and you can switch any time. It's the same app told in two ways: you lose nothing by starting simple.

Basic

For anyone just starting out

Fewer screens and everything in plain words, with no degrees, no millimeters and no f-numbers. You set up your phone by picking its cameras —ultra wide 0.5×, main 1× and zoom—, just as you see them when you take a photo. And the Map opens as an assistant that builds your plan in six steps: what you want to photograph, with which camera, against what, where you'll shoot from and when they line up. «Tonight» tells you whether it's worth going out, and «Your plan» can be shared, reminds you the day before and goes to your calendar.

Advanced

For when you know what you're after

Everything the app already had, exactly as before. The map with its pins, its layers and «Line up», the hour-by-hour forecast with seeing, the Space Station transits and the calculators running on your gear's millimeters and f-numbers.

Your mode, your language and your cameras and lenses all live together in Settings. If you started in Basic and outgrew it, switch to Advanced and it's all there.

Today

The times that matter, one after another: sunrise, golden hour, blue hour, daylight, sunset and night, with the Moon and its phase. And the weather where you are, right at the top, so you know whether it's worth going out.

Map

The sky seen from above, laid over the real terrain: the circle is your horizon and the arc is the path the Sun or the Moon takes across the day, with the hour marked. You drop a pin where you want the photo and you know when the Sun, the Moon or the Milky Way passes right through it. In Basic mode this same tab opens as an assistant that builds your plan in six steps, with no pins and no layers.

The live sky, over your camera

Aim at the sky

You lift your phone and see where everything is, day or night, drawn over what you're looking at. It's how you frame in the afternoon what you'll be photographing before dawn.

Which night is worth it?

Night

One percentage that weighs how dark the sky gets, the Moon's phase and whether it's up, the clouds in the forecast and the light pollution where you are. Tap it and it explains everything pushing the number up or down, in plain words. Instead of opening three apps, you look at the nights ahead and pick the best one.

Events

The events you can actually see from where you are, not the ones happening somewhere else: local times for every phase, and how much of it you'll really see.

Nearby

The Events agenda shows you, as one more date, everything within reach: the workshops and outings run by photographers who teach in your area, and at the bottom the photo shops and services. Each one with its own card, and a direct line to whoever runs it.

Learn

Short, to-the-point guides, and tools that do the math for you. You enter your camera and your lenses once, and everything hands you real settings instead of generic advice.

  • Milky Way, full Moon, pinpoint stars and star trails

How each part works.

Pick a screen and read the steps. It's the same help you get inside FotoNoa, in case you want to read it before downloading, or out in the field with barely any signal.

  1. At the very top it tells you whether tonight is worth going out, with a 1-to-10 score, the reasons and the best moment. Tap one of the upcoming outings and «Plan this photo» builds the plan for you.

FotoNoa gets updated often. What changed last is written down here, so you don't have to guess by opening the app.

    • Every favorite shows when in big letters, with the weekday, and how long until it happens.
    • Tapping a favorite opens it full screen, with even buttons and «Remove» at the end.

    • The step-by-step for your phone is now a list to read, with no checkboxes.

I'm Daniel Facelli and I lead FotoNoa. I specialize in night and landscape photography, where I find a space to connect with nature and silence. Besides shooting, I love teaching: on YouTube I share the behind the scenes of my photos, from planning to capture and editing. FotoNoa grew out of that planning: it's the tool I wanted in my pocket before every outing.

This project is sustained by the relationships that form around the app. Photographers who share a favorite, report a bug or suggest an idea.
